Teaching

David has taught since the late 1980s in state universities and a private American Indian controlled college. He has developed and taught more than 40 distinct courses with an American Indian content-based focus, primarily in the areas of history, governance, sovereignty, and community development. Indigeneity, tribal sovereignty, and community well-being provide the foundation for his instruction. In his teaching he works to provide students — Indian and non-Indian — with the analytical tools and knowledge base to promote tribal community capacity building, whether they plan to work in tribal communities, or in jobs that ultimately impact Indian country.
